Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts consist of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, linked up to create an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is raised vertically. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting apparatus to be able to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
Scissor lifts offer a low profile which is great for pavement, hard dirt surfaces and concrete. These machines utilize either a combustion engine or electric motor to be able to move the lift and power the lifting mechanism. The operator should move the lift itself if he or she needs to travel horizontally, as the lift mechanism only operates the lift in a vertical way.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts use the same lifting technology as a standard scissor lift. The main difference is that the rough terrain models feature a different base that is particularly made for uneven surfaces. These units also offer higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive in order to navigate through difficult and muddy terrain with no trouble.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are made to be elevated both vertically and diagonally. This particular unit has a small work platform which houses controls in order to operate the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics which move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift model.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are attached with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting machine has a bucket or a small work platform that is outfitted with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts which are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are designed to be able to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
To be able to raise a work platform vertically into the air, the aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast. The lift is usually powered pneumatically or electrically and are self-propelled models. These machines provide a great solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is really essential to note that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road use.
