In 1949, the Liebherr family business was established by Hans Liebherr. His first claim to fame was the success of his inexpensive and easy-to-assemble mobile tower crane. It was upon this creation that the foundation of the company flourished under. Nowadays, The Liebherr company has grown to become amongst the world's leading manufacturers of construction equipment. The company has also earned the reputation of being the accredited provider of technically innovative user-oriented products and services in various fields. The business has presently become a "Group" working in every continent with more than 35,000 workers and over 130 companies across the world.
To be able to ensure a manageable operating size, the Liebherr Group has been divided into different company units. These units have been designed to operate separately. This particular set up enables the company the ability to stay in tune with global competition and be flexible to market signals. Moreover, having so many individual company units also ensures customer proximity and keeps customer service operating at an optimum level.
The divisional control companies handle the operative management of the sales companies and the production for the individual product segments. The Liebherr Group presently has 10 different product divisions.
Liebherr-International AG is the Liebherr Group's holding company. They are situated in Bulle, Switzerland and are totally owned by members of the Liebherr family. Currently, the family business is being managed in the 2nd generation by Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr and her brother Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr. Since the year 2012, some of the active individual divisions have been represented by 3rd generation members of the family including: Stefanie Wohlfarth, Patricia Ruf, Jan Liebherr and Sophie Albrecht. These members of the family have been working hard together to be able to help set up the family business' course in the future. They are staying on top of large-scale industrial projects and residential buildings all over the world.
Hans Liebherr began to build his company in 1949, within a small town called Kirchdorf in southern Germany. Kirchdorf, now supports amongst Liebherr's 20 manufacturing locations. They employ over 1400 individuals in that specific workforce and are able to average a yearly output of approximately 2800 wheeled excavators.
